WHAT DOES VEGAN MEAN?
The word vegan is currently defined as a way of living that attempts to exclude all forms of animal exploitation and cruelty, be it for food, clothing, entertainment, or any other purpose. So someone who lives a vegan lifestyle will refrain from eating anything that comes from an animal, such as milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, fish, seafood, and of course, meat. Animal products can also be found in our clothing, accessories and shoes. Some common examples would be leather, suede, animal based glue, and wool.
Fortunately, due to the rise of plant based consumers, the food and fashion industry has come a long way in creating many vegan alternatives to products that are typically non-vegan.
SO WHY GO VEGAN?
There are many reasons to go vegan, here are a few of the most popular:
For Ethics
It’s no secret that factory farming is a cruel and unethical practice. However, almost any animal based industry, including those like the dairy, egg, and wool industry, exploit animals and cause great suffering. We firmly believe that anyone can live a colorful, happy, and fulfilling lifestyle without the need to kill another living being for the sake of taste.
For Health
There are many health benefits to living a plant-based, or vegan, lifestyle. There are many studies which show that eating a vegan diet can reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, or even cancer. Many vegans also choose to give up animal products in order to avoid the hormones and antibiotics commonly used in modern animal farming.
For the Environment
Many vegans choose this lifestyle because of the strain of animal agriculture on the environment. Animals typically require many more resources than plants and can cause lasting harm to the earth. Raising livestock requires significantly more water and space than growing plants does and produces less, therefore using more resources to feed less people. The livestock industry is also one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas emissions which causes air pollution and global warming. Animal agriculture is also one of the leading causes of deforestation.
Whatever your cause and whatever your commitment, we believe that being a responsible and conscious consumer can help change the trends of modern industries and make a greener, kinder world.
VEGAN VS VEGETARIAN: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
It seems as though there are as many types of plant based diets and lifestyles as there are styles of dance, and they can be hard to keep straight! One of the most common questions people have is what is the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian.
To put it simply, vegetarian is someone who doesn’t eat meat, and a vegan is someone who doesn’t consume any kind of animal product at all. Many vegetarians continue to eat eggs and dairy, but refrain from buying products that require the animal to be killed, such as leather and suede.
SO WHAT ARE VEGAN DANCE SHOES MADE OF?
If you are looking for vegan dance shoes, we know it can be a daunting task.
The good news is that in recent years, vegan shoes and products have come a long way. With advances in synthetic manufacturing, non-leather goods and materials are now virtually identical to their genuine counterparts.
There are typically two types of sole for vegan shoes: PU sole (suitable for outdoor use) & faux leather sole (imitation cowhide suede made with nano-fiber material).
